Will you join the movement ?

Green Apple is a global movement, initiated by the USGBC, which started last year to sensitize around the subject of health and sustainability in schools – The aim of the movement is to “put all children in schools  where they have clean and healthy air to breathe, where energy and resources are conserved, and where they can be inspired to dream of a brighter future”.

The 2nd edition of the Green Apple Day of Service, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, gives parents, teachers, students, companies and local organizations the opportunity to transform all schools into healthy, safe and productive learning environments through local service projects.

Our US colleagues are familiar to this practice of dedicating some time for a charity or a school to help them… In Europe, this is not very widespread and recognized. So, i’m particurlary enthusiastic about this project and quite keen on pushing it as much as I can.

The Green Apple Day represents a good opportunity to boost and reinforce the social dimension in our sustainability agenda. Let’s take the time to give some time to others…

Last year, for the first edition, Interface took an active part in this worldwide initiative :

31 projects were implemented representing 3% of the total Green Apple Day projects !

38% were international reaching Brazil, China, Thailand, UK and Canada.

Interface collaborators did organize activities around Education, landscaping school gardens or refurbishing class rooms with carpets !

If you ran out of inspiration, please have a look at some project ideas :

This year, we plan to coordinate a European common action to make it easier for volunteers to get involved. We propose a global education presentation on “how recycling can reduce poverty ?” talking about our Net-Works project in the Philippines. A presentation template will be at disposal for volunteers to go and present it in the schools of their children or wherever they like !

But this “common project” must not prevent any good local will to implement other types of projects ! All new ideas are welcome !

The official day of the 28th of September is symbolic as projects can happen anytime from now until the end of year.

I’m sure our vast network of champions will demonstrate the strength and breadth of our movement, leaving a meaningful and lasting local impact. Do not hesitate to come back to me with as many ideas as possible !!
